Terms and Expressions

We use a.m. / AM or p.m. /PM to label hours.

Starting at midnight and until noon we use AM. We know this time as the morning. Midnight is at 12:00 AM. Children go to school at 8:00 AM. Businesses may open at 9:00 AM.

Starting at noon we use PM. Noon is at 12:00 PM. We can eat lunch late at 1:00 PM. Children finish school at 3;00 PM. Stores close at 5:00 PM.

We can be early and late. If you and a friend plan to see at movie at 7:00 PM and you arrive at 6:30, you are early. If you arrive at 7:30, you are late. It’s never good to be late!

Ask yourself: Are you usually early, on time, or late to school?
