The Sound of “O”

You have seen the words “cold” and “throat“. Each of these words uses the sound “O” (long “O”). For some non-native speakers, it’s hard to hear the difference between the “O” (long “O”) sound in “sore” and the similar sounds in “shot” and “son”.

Listen to the following list of words. If a word has the “O” sound, write “yes”. If the word does not have the “O” (long “O”) sound, write “no.” The first three are done for you.
