Grammar: Simple Present Tense

We use the simple present tense to talk about people, places, and things in the present time. Here are three ways we use the simple present:

We use the simple present for facts.

Dogs have four legs.

People speak different languages.

We use the simple present for things that don’t change for a long time.

Joanna plays guitar.

My father works downtown.

We use the simple present tense for actions we do all the time (routine actions).

I brush my teeth after breakfast.

Donna washes her clothes on Fridays.
