3 – Grammar: Wh- Questions

Many wh- questions in simple present start with the wh- question word + “do” or “does.” The subject follows “do” or “does” in these questions. Look at the charts.

In some questions with “Who” and “What,” we don’t use “do” or “does.” The verb follows the wh-question word in these questions. Look at the charts.

We use “why” questions to find out a reason for something. Many “Why” questions are followed by “do”
or “does.”
Answers to “Why” questions often contain “because” + S + V when giving a reason*.
