Exercise 1 – Listen & Complete

Megan: I waited a long time for this museum’s to open. Now the day’s finally here! Oh good. They have tours. I’ll rent these headphones and listen to it as I walk around.

Guide: Hello and welcome to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s exhibition of the Greek masters. This self-guided audio tour allows you to view the exhibit at your own speed. It usually between 1.5-2 hours. Let’s begin.

Megan: Great. Let’s go!

Guide: Currently, you’re standing in the Ahmanson building. It’s part of the original building and was built in 1965. Now start walking to Gallery B. From where you are, it will be straight ahead towards the double doors.

Megan: There must be something very important in there. It’s by a lot of people who look very serious.

Guide: The tour starts with the large artwork on your right. Its name is “The One.” This shows a historical warrior ready to defend his country even after all the other soldiers have left him. The statue was made by Argos Pandora and was uncovered at the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea three years ago. Scientists believe it’s more than 2000 years old.

Megan: Wow!! That is really old! Something that old must be very .

Guide: It is from the National Museum of Greece. When not traveling around the world, it’s in a room kept cold to make sure it stays in the best condition possible.

Megan: Ahhhh. So the secret to looking young is to spend less time in my bathroom and more in my refrigerator. Ha ha! Let’s see if I can take a selfie.

Guide: Please be aware that touching and photographing the artwork are not allowed. Anybody caught doing either will be removed from the museum. Now, pause the audio player until you’re ready to move on to the next display.
